Los Angeles, in the near future. Theodore Twombly, a sensitive man with a complex character, is inconsolable following a difficult breakup. He acquires an ultra-modern computer program, capable of adapting to the personality of each user. When launching the system, he meets "Samantha", an intelligent, intuitive, and surprisingly funny female voice. The needs and desires of Samantha grow and evolve, just like those of Theodore, and gradually they fall in love...
