We know about the shortage of teachers, the lack of kindergarten places, the gender pay gap and the fact that we are still far from being able to combine full-time work and family. There is no shortage of studies on the gender pension gap, the unequal distribution of care and housework in families, and there is also a lot of discussion about mental load and the part-time trap. But is anything changing?
One thing is certain: more and more mothers are talking about what this all means in concrete terms. #Motherfuckinghood was created on the initiative of the Luxembourg actress Claude De Demo in collaboration with the director Jorinde Dröse. The development of the piece began with extensive research, accompanied by many discussions. Three authors wrote texts: Antonia Baum, Mareike Fallwickl and Emilia Roig. Other texts by Claude De Demo, Alexandra Zykunov and Jana Heinicke as well as an interview with the sociologist Jutta Allmendinger were also included.
The result is a collage about experiences of motherhood, about work and care work, feminism and sons, about the feeling of guilt, about the cult of the good mother, and about what it means when women increasingly decide against taking on unpaid reproductive and care work.
