Set against the backdrop of an idyllic summer in Germany, Katinka, a young farmer, dreams of preserving the family farm. However, her ambition collides with the realities of modern agriculture, a sector facing economic difficulties and continuous decline. Unique in its kind, Smell of Burnt Milk focuses on the fate of young female farmers and carves a unique path by playing with documentary conventions to create a portrait of rural life that, while fictional, appears both authentic and improvised. Its lyrical and languorous images belie the uncertain and unstable future of the farming family.
