Dag JOHAN HAUGERUD, 125 min, 2024 - Norway
Two heterosexual and married chimney sweeps find themselves in situations that challenge their view of sexuality. One has a sexual relationship with another man, without experiencing it as an expression of homosexual desire or infidelity. The other suddenly begins to have nocturnal dreams in which he sees himself as a woman. He begins to wonder to what extent the gaze of others shapes his personality and if there are aspects of himself that he has repressed.
Remarkable for the accuracy of its dialogues and the banality of its situations, Sex offers an uncommon form, with sequences of equal length, entirely dedicated to the study of the characters' psyche. As the first title in a trilogy, it promises a sharp look at Norwegian customs and the heteronormativity in place.
