In February 2022, Taras and Olya spend their first night in their new apartment near Kyiv but are awakened at dawn by explosions: Russian troops have invaded the country. The couple quickly finds themselves trapped in the apartment. Trapped in their apartment, cut off from the world, and deprived of basic amenities, they must learn to survive. This bold debut film quickly transitions from a story of domestic intimacy to a well-crafted thriller. Its stripped-down approach – two actors, a set, and limited use of non-diegetic sound – allows Ozirna to focus on the interiority of her two characters who, caught in the midst of the Russo-Ukrainian war, must face both immediate and existential crises.
