An introspective documentary on the suppression and erasure of Palestinian history. Composed of an assemblage of archival footage from the Palestine Research Center in Beirut, which was invaded and pillaged during the Israeli occupation in 1982, the film finds its essence in its title, which could be translated as "someone who dedicates their life to a cause."
A Fidai Film is an important and devastating meditation on Palestinian history, presented as an experimental documentary that defies genre conventions by showing fragmented sequences of archival footage without context, timeline, or narration.
The mix of auditory elements captured in reality and non-diegetic sounds reinforces the urgency of the film, while the imagery is interspersed with writings by Palestinian author and activist Ghassan Kanafani.
