In February 2022, Taras and Olya spend their first night in their new apartment near Kiev but are awakened at dawn by explosions: Russian troops have invaded the country. The couple quickly finds themselves trapped in the apartment. Cut off from the world and deprived of basic amenities, they must learn to survive. This bold first film quickly shifts from a domestic intimacy story to a well-crafted thriller. Its stripped-back approach – two actors, one set, and limited use of non-diegetic sound – allows Ozirna to focus on the interiority of her two characters who, caught in the middle of the Russo-Ukrainian war, must face both immediate and existential crises.
