Set against the backdrop of an idyllic summer in Germany, Katinka, a young farmer, dreams of keeping the family farm. However, her dream faces the realities of modern agriculture, a sector facing economic challenges and continuous decline. Unique in its genre, Smell of Burnt Milk focuses on the fate of young women farmers and creates an original path by playing with documentary conventions to craft a portrait of rural life that, although fictional, appears both authentic and improvised. Its lyrical and languorous images belie the uncertain and unstable future of the family in farming.
