Are we HAMLET? Do we wander just as uncertainly through our lives?
He could not overcome the unexpected death of his father. A ghost, he believes, confirmed to him that things weren't right. His mother's quick shift to his uncle, the brother and heir of the deceased, seems like further confirmation.
Our Hamlet is trapped in his thoughts, doubts, and inhibitions, which makes him suspect permanent dangers all around. Hamlet, a daydreamer?
Undoubtedly, Shakespeare achieved a masterstroke of complexity in his hesitance, constantly missing opportunities for vengeance, to finally draw the wrong and thus devastating conclusions for all.
The ghost of his deceased father appearing in the guise of his equally scared mother, in whom he also sees the desired and ultimately spurned Ophelia, is part of our concept, allowing for wide interpretation freedom but also certain indications.
A chamber play within the feelings of human existence. The four actors carry on the battle in a closed space, yet ever aware of the looming threat from the approaching enemy Fortinbras of Norway. Uncertainty looms: will he come, or will everything remain as it is?
