Blablablastik
by Samuel Hamen

With Catherine Janke & Konstantin Rommelfangen

Directed by Anne Simon
Music and composition by Michel Meis

A coproduction by Openscreen asbl with the Kasemattentheater and the CAPE - Centre des Arts Pluriels Ettelbruck.

In Blablablastik, the latest radio play from the Kappkino series, a material becomes audible: plastic. From the best-selling furniture of all time, the white Monobloc chair, to the melancholic plastic bag scene from the film American Beauty - plastic is omnipresent in our world. Through the personal story of a woman who speaks in this play and whose thoughts are dominated by an obsession with plastic, the history of plastic and its ties to our societal and individual consumption are addressed. How has this material influenced the life of this woman?

What role does it play in shaping our experiences in the 20th and 21st centuries? The woman in this story is from a previous generation and must adapt to the new attitude towards plastic. At the same time, as a mother, she has concerns about the health of her growing son. Various research findings accompany the woman's monologue, providing listeners with a more nuanced and multifaceted perspective on one of the most controversial materials of our everyday lives, without being preachy.

In the spirit of Kappkino, the radio play Blablablastik is performed in a completely dark room and without visual stimuli, allowing people to fully concentrate on the auditory experience. Sounds and music, created by plastic instruments, can also be heard to express the core theme on another level. Thus, everyone can create their own film and thoughts in their mind.
