Sur tes traces is a cross-portrait of two artists, one born in Iran, the other in Quebec. Part travel diary, part intimate investigation, the show throws open the doors to their inner mansions and presents a story spanning three continents. Dany Boudreault was born in a rural area on the shores of Lake Saint-Jean in Quebec; Gurshad Shaheman grew up in the Islamic Republic of Iran, where he spent the first twelve years of his life.
Starting from a list of places and people—family, first loves, friends, enemies—that marked their youthful romps and struggles, Boudreault and Shaheman set out to swim against the current of each other's lives to create an unprecedented portrait. Equipped with headphones, the audience freely navigates through the personal archives to which they are given the keys; they can choose at any time to follow the story of one or the other. Thus, beyond the oceans, intimate and political narratives intertwine to resonate within each and every one of us.
