Zonga, by Alexandra David and Jipé Lukusa Kankonde, explores questions of identity, cultural heritage, and historical justice through dance. "Zonga," which means "come back" in Lingala, the language of Congo, is a call for the restitution of African art objects. The choreographer expresses the quest for self, for roots that are sometimes severed, affirming that cultural heritage cannot be separated from those who created it. On stage, four dancers in symbiosis with four masks, bridges between the world of the living and that of the ancestors, come to life. The dancers, inhabited by these spirits, rediscover forgotten sensations and dance to tell the story of a tearing apart and a desire for reunification.
