Terres d'Industrie : Espaces d'Avenir - Conférence
"Steel and mining activities have shaped our landscapes, the infrastructure and urban planning of our territories. Generations of workers and their families, from here and most often from elsewhere, settled there and long developed a working-class culture and a specific collective pride inherited from this history. Violent industrial crises gradually destroyed a large part of these landscapes, these factories. They also created tensions for its inhabitants between pride in this collective adventure and the trauma of deindustrialization, the disintegration of social ties inherited from this history. Steel activities and the lasting traces of this epic still remain today in the landscapes and in the collective memory of its inhabitants.
The U4 blast furnace park, the Neufchef mining museum, Aumetz, several other places of remembrance and various artistic creations (books, films, songs, etc.) claim the continuity of this history which refuses to fade away in northern Lorraine as in our Luxembourg and Saarland neighbors. Can this heritage constitute a support, an asset, to contribute to the economic, cultural, tourist and industrial development of our territories? This is one of the questions that will be asked to the speakers (historians, economists, artists, etc.) at the meeting organized on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the U4 Park in Uckange.
