The European Union, a Union of Values? Chant, illusions or reality?
The Treaty on the European Union states that the Union is founded on values such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. These values are highlighted in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and carry the same legal weight as treaties since the Lisbon Treaty. However, questions arise about their practical application and role in European diplomacy. Jean-Claude Bonichot, former judge at the ECJ, will provide his insightful analysis on how the Union can defend and promote these values in today's global context.
