The Siege of 1684 - Vauban in Luxembourg
Starting in 1681, Louis XIV's troops blockaded the fortress of Luxembourg. At Christmas 1683, the city was bombarded for several days. It was only at the end of April 1684 that Marshal Créqui began the siege. After six weeks of intense fighting, the Spanish garrison had to surrender. Vauban learned lessons from this siege and reinforced the fortress on the surrounding plateaus.
