As one of the few male representatives of the contemporary fado scene, Telmo Pires fills large concert halls in Germany, most recently the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, the Essen Philharmonie, the Peterskirche in Leipzig and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. His individual approach inspires audiences and the media alike. "Telmo Pires appears not only as a new voice, but also as a new 'image' of male fado," wrote the Portuguese magazine Nova Gente back in 2016. Die Welt described Pires as "a magician of his genre" and the WAZ wrote: "There are voices that almost take shape, filling a room with physical presence. Telmo Pires's is one of them."
Pires has called his current album Através do Fado, which means "through the fado" in English. The title can be read ambiguously, reflecting Pires' personal relationship with fado as well as its versatility. "Fado means destiny," says Telmo Pires, "it brought me to Lisbon ten years ago. I express myself artistically in this music, I see the country, the way I live and the way I love through fado."
