As part of the "Wolf Month at the Habay Library", we invite you to a conference on the return of the wolf in Wallonia. No animal has struck the human imagination as much as the wolf! The cursed hero of all legends, object of all beliefs, both feared and admired, hated and respected, the most powerful predator of temperate climates has played a considerable role in the mythology, legends, imagination, tradition, and folklore of most European peoples. This conference presents the wolf in its relationship with modern humans and its current situation following its official return to Belgium, with a particular focus on the population in Wallonia since 2016. This conference is accessible to all, with a backdrop of a series of "wild" wolf photographs taken in Europe between 1993 and 2003 as part of professional assignments as a photographer on the return of the wolf to Western Europe. Hans will also discuss the necessity of strictly protecting the wolf in Europe while considering the need for a "respectful" coexistence between the wolf and the agrarian world.
