Johannes Brahms, Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor op. 15Jean Sibelius, Valse Triste op. 44 No. 1Carl Nielsen,Saga DrømJohannes Brahms, Variations on a Theme of Haydn op. 56aThe Luxembourg Philharmonia orchestra, directed by its Danish-born conductor Martin Elmquist, performs regularly both in the Grand Duchy and abroad. After its concert at CAPE dedicated to Scandinavian composers in 2023, the orchestra returns to Ettelbruck with a once again very “Nordic” program. The concert will open with the First Piano Concerto by Johannes Brahms, an early work by the Hanseatic composer, which was a failure during its first performances, but is today one of the treasures of the repertoire. It will be performed with Italian pianist Pietro Bonfilio, graduate of the renowned Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdide Milan and artistic director of the international festival Morellino Classica. The second part of the concert will first offer the famous Valse sad by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, followed by the Drøm Saga, a symphonic poem by the Dane Carl Nielsen inspired by the Icelandic saga of Njáll. And to close this evening, Brahms will once again be in the spotlight with his Variations on a Theme by Haydn, composed almost twenty years after his First Piano Concerto.
