The World According To My Dad / Jiříkovo vidění (Czech Republic, Slovakia 2023) documentary, 77 min, en subtitles. Directed by Marta Kovářová, written by Marta Kovářová, with Jiří Svoboda Jiří, a researcher at the Institute of Physics of Materials of the Czech Academy of Sciences, came up with a simple idea on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a global carbon tax. His daughter, a punk rocker and visual artist, is making a film diary about his quixotic fight for climate justice. 'I wanted to make this film to examine why the world can't be the way my dad imagines in his kitchen.' Accompanied by his daughter's camera and songs, the Czech scientist attends local protest meetings and global environmental summits and inevitably runs into walls: the inflexible power structures and the politicians’ blah, blah, blah. This is an energising and entertaining father-daughter buddy movie about contagious enthusiasm to do things that make sense. The film was screened as part of the Official Selection of Ji.hlava IDFF 2023.
