Yellow Under Pressure

  • exhibition

Cube #15 - Anni Mertens 'Yellow Under Pressure' transforms the cube into a surreal desert landscape. Inspired by the ever-changing environment of the Rotondes, this site-specific sculptural installation reflects a place subjected to constructions and constraints. The palm trees, acting as scaffolding pressed against the cube's limits, and the ceramic pillars emerging from the sand-covered floor suggest a landscape defined by resilience under pressure. Distorted shapes and bright yellows seem both familiar and strange. The mix of satin colors and industrial neon reflections creates a perplexing interaction between textures, colors, and lights. From the outside of the cube, spectators observe a dreamlike scene where surfaces deceive, textures change, and materials challenge perception. This raises the question: how do we manage to navigate the spaces we inhabit as they constantly adapt and change yet never completely conform to us?
