Political Observatory - Towards the End of Provinces: What Consequences?
The subject has been on the table for many years, but the new center-right majority MR-Engagés seems to be accelerating this project.
In its regional policy declaration, the new Walloon government indicates a desire to reconfigure the provinces by 2030. "There will therefore be no provincial election in 2030. The future face of the provinces will be the subject of a regional popular consultation," the executive specifies in its DPR.
Rationalizing, simplifying, removing a layer of the institutional lasagna. These arguments are often put forward, but what really lies behind this provincial reform?
What are the risks for the inhabitants of the Luxembourg province? To replace this level of power, a Mayors' assembly seems to be taking shape. How will it function? What competencies may lose in proximity and quality if managed from Namur or Brussels?
