Under the title of "Dis-placed," Konschthal Esch collaborates with the City of Esch-sur-Alzette through its program for the 2024 Biennale – Architectures, of Esch Cultural Capital. Divided into two parts between July 2024 and January 2025, Konschthal Esch will bring together works by a dozen international and Luxembourg artists around the notion of "home loss."

This concept of "home" is often associated with the figure of architecture, a territory, an environment, as well as a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity. However, individuals or groups are daily forced to leave their "home" due to coercive or oppressive circumstances. Armed conflicts, persecutions, violence, natural disasters, economic crises, and other factors that make the place of origin unbearable or endanger the safety of individuals lead to exodus.

This notion of "home loss" does not systematically lead to migration: the renunciation of certain beliefs, just as the nostalgia of an ideology, equally feeds this sentiment of the loss of identity, belonging to a community, to a "home."

In July 2024, the first part of "Dis-placed" will open in public spaces as well as in Konschthal Esch spaces with artworks specifically adapted to these locations, with: Vajiko Chachkhiani and Haus-Rucker-Co. In September 2024, the second part of "Dis-placed" will then take place in the first levels of Konschthal presenting works by: Taysir Batniji, Marco A. Castillo, Vajiko Chachkhiani, Haus-Rucker-Co, Sebastián Díaz Morales, Marlene Dumas, Guillaume Delaperrière, Omer Fast, Tirdad Hashemi & Soufia Erfanian, Samira Hodaei, Candida Höfer, Hiwa K, Lisa Kohl, Gregor Schneider, and The Blaze.

Organized by artists from Germany, Argentina, South Africa, Cuba, France, Georgia, Israel, Iraq, Iran, Palestine, and Luxembourg, these works address the concept of "home" and its loss through autobiographical accounts or those collected from itinerants. Between the lived experience and interpretation, these images speak of abandonment, flight, persecution, exile, encounter, as well as memory and aftermath.
